Random team generator for classes, sports, and games
Paste a class list, a roster, or the names of everyone at game night, set the number of teams, and press Make teams. Each team gets its own color and card, and members are dealt into the cards one by one so you can watch the split happen.
Sizes stay as even as the numbers allow. The line under the controls tells you what you'll get before you press the button, for example 23 names → 3 teams of 6 and 1 of 5.
Random group generator by group size
Switch to People per team when you care about group size more than the number of groups. Set it to 2 for partners, 3 for lab groups, or 5 for a five-a-side match, and the tool works out how many groups that makes.
Leftovers are spread across the groups instead of forming a tiny last group. With an odd number of people in pairs, one group of 3 is made so nobody works alone.
Team generator with captains, skill levels, and tags
A few markers in the names list make fairer teams without extra forms. The help under Captains, skill levels and more shows each one with an example.
- *Name makes a captain. Captains go one per team and are listed first.
- Name|4 sets a skill from 1 to 5. Teams are balanced by their skill totals.
- Name #tag spreads a group evenly, such as #girl and #boy or #grade5 and #grade6.
- Ava + Ben on one line keeps two people on the same team.
Team picker with a draft-style reveal
Turn on Reveal one by one to show the teams pick by pick, the way a draft works. Each press of Reveal next, or the space bar, adds the next person to the team whose turn it is, and the small dial spins to that team's color.
After the teams are set, Pick a leader highlights one random person on each team to speak first, keep score, or collect equipment.
A random team chooser wheel without the waiting
Spinning a wheel once per person gets slow with a full class. This tool splits everyone at once and still gives you the suspense of a wheel through the one-by-one reveal, so you can run it on a projector and announce each pick.
When you're done, copy the teams as text, download a CSV for a spreadsheet, save a PNG image with each team's color, or send them from your phone's share menu.
